prompted by the 'good doctor' or maybe it was his alter ego TEDS ;), I thought I'd start a topic not related to strength training.

what interests/hobbies are you involved in that do not involve strength training?

me - I ride a motorbike on weekends, I grow hot peppers, I play chess, I have pets, I don't have kids so I have my own Xbox

I'm not sure this topic will be overly popular but it might take some of the focus away from some of the ultra-serious topics on these boards. who knows, we may get to find out a little more about each other, find some common ground, maybe develop an understanding about what makes each other tick. maybe. :)

I like to read.
I have read all of Vince Flynn's, John D MacDonald, Randy Striker (Randy White) Tom Corcoran, Bob Morris, Carl Hiaasen, and am on Randy Wayne Whites last one. I'm a porch guy when I get the chance.

I love to read also. Sci/Fi/Fantasy mostly. I also love to fish (freshwater), although I almost never get the chance. Retiring on a lake somewhere is a longterm goal of mine.

The Gripboard has a section called "Goerner Reborn Forum!". It is where "off topics" are discussed.

My understanding from Day One from Dr. Strossen is that he only wanted strength-related subjects discussed. In other words, my understanding is that this thread is kinda sorta lika exactly what he did not want to have on the IronMind Forum.

I have exchanged hundreds of emails with Randy, and I don't think he has shared much in the way of his personal life in those emails. But, I don't speak for him, so Doctor, Speak!

here you go Mike, as much as I think it is poor form to post entire pm's on the boards, I will post Randall's comment for you

"P.S. Start a thread on chess and strength training some time or maybe this is a potential MILO article?"

I guess I would have thought that was a joke, no?

yeah maybe Mike, if so the jokes on me, if you want just delete the topic (though as the Savage Jake topic survived for so long this probably isn't as bad I guess and certainly not as offensive).

I am an infrequent visitor to the GB and don't frequent the Goerner Reborn section, usually I just do a quick scan of new posts to see if anything has been posted that interests me, have a browse then leave.

I agree. If Sam Scott can create a topic bashing someone for something said on another board then there’s no reason something like this can't exist. We have already established that this forum isn’t quite the Utopia it first set off to be (yet) and a topic like this may indeed be the bane of Kim Woods existence, but I think all forums serious or not should have an area where off the norm discussion exists. I don’t think you can have a perfect forum without a little humanity spread into the mix. We all aren’t emotionless weightlifting/strength enthusiastic robots convening at a virtual water cooler after a hard day working for our cruel masters are we?

Please take a look at what Mark quoted and you'll see I didn't suggest chatting about how you like to do needlepoint or can tune a Weber carburetor in the dark: Mark mentioned that he played chess and so I said, "P.S. Start a thread on chess and strength training some time or maybe this is a potential MILO article?"

Somehow, that seems to have morphed into chatting about hobbies in general, which isn't what I suggested or really on topic, although I guess that Robb's got a point about it not being the most off-topic thing that has popped up—although that whole Savage Jake thing disappeared. Talking about off topic topics, what was that thing all about anyway, Robb?

thanks for your support Robb

and yes, sorry Randall, I did take a bit of poetic licence with your recommendation, it morphed into a topic about hobbies as I sort of guessed that if I asked for input on chess and strength training that my opening post would have been the only one in the topic.

I do like a good game of chess and play very often on the 'net. I probably have anything up to 20 or 30 games going at once which is a bit of a challenge sometimes. it's a hobby my wife doesn't mind and it doesn't cost anything. the strength training will hopefully keep my back and legs in good order as I mature and keeping the brain functioning at some sort of semi-reasonable level must be a good thing.

Im not quite sure what it was about other than Sam having it out for someone by the name of Savage Jake on the Gripboard. From what i remember Jake mentioned Sams name in a post and i wouldn't be suprised if Jake was actually Sam trying to stir his name into the mix of things again, since that is what he thrives upon.:;dk)
