I just got the WSM results and I see the big Z won again, and that Brian Shaw was second. Poundstone was 9th. What happened?

He injured a quad a few weeks before the contest squatting.

Over there, Derek told me that given his condition he'd thought about not competing in this year's World's Strongest Man contest, but then he decided that wasn't the right thing to do. Instead, he said, he wanted to show people that sometimes you have to face adversity, and for him competing when he wasn't at the top of his game was an example of that.

I thought Derek seemed relaxed and mellow at WSM this year, at peace with an imperfect situation and making the best of it.

Give this guy two thumbs up! :;tu) :;tu)

Thanks guys, one day Derek Poundstone will be king!

Ps. Savickas is a beast and he deserves to be on top.

That is a commendable approach by Poundstone. Thanks for sharing.

He also injured a shoulder during the finals as well I believe. Ortmayer was injured during the log press as well. Seemed to be a few injuries this year.

If I'm not mistaken he more or less got off the plane from Africa, injury and all, and then won a big contest here the next weekend.

Yes - Derek's not one to look for the easy way out:

I believe it was actually less than 24 hours after getting back
