What music do people listen to (songs, bands ect.)
What quotes do people live by?
“Strength is happiness. Strength is itself victory. In weakness and cowardice there is no happiness.” — Daisaku Ikeda, Buddhist Leader of Soka Gakkai International
"Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. " -Confucius (551-479 BC), philosopher
"Becoming number one is easier than remaining number one." -Bill Bradley

Well, my father has ALWAYS lived by, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Those words echo in my mind all the time.
Being a woman, I have always appreciated the verse, "She has girded her hips with strength, and she invigorates her arms." - Prov. 31:17
As far as music, don't really have a "band" that I listen to, more like a "mixed tape" type thing consisting of songs that personally get me moving or jazzed up. The World's Strongest Man Soundtrack does a great job of getting me pumped too!

Hello All,
When I was young - which was a long, long time ago - I read "The call of the wild", a poem by Robert Service.
You should look it up and see if it does anything for you. I still have a copy of it on my Gym wall - and read it everytime I do something that resembles training.

"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers,
For he to-day who sheds his blood with me,
Shall be my brother."
"St. Crispin's Day Speech" from "Henry V" - Shakespeare
That quote comes to mind after struggling with my friends to lift great stones.

I really liked that quote Bill. I enlarged some pics for my garage gym and put quotes from Theodore Roosevelt. Pretty much every quote involving trying rather than not trying is inspirational. As far as my choice of music. I usually listen to ACDC, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Disturbed...anything with a chainsaw sound.

Tausha - I particularly liked this quotation from Proverbs because from a lifting point of view, the hips are the center of power and everything radiates from them . . . which is why some spindly-armed Olympic-style weightlifter can clean and jerk far more than a guy loaded with beach muscles and tiny, weak hips.

I really like that quote as well Randall. Time to do a little more homework in the Good Book.
That is also true about the beach muscles. The first time I went to a big meet in weightlifting, Jack King told me to look out into the crowd. He said "All the guys with big arms are in the audience". Big, reactive hips is exactly what Milo of Crotona developed with lifting a wiggling, live mass of muscle in the form of a bull.
As Steve Jeck said in "Classic Jeck", "Listen close friends, this is what you will take to the gym with you tomorrow".

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow." - Mary Anne Radmacher
I put this up on the wall where I am working on a project I keep failing on. It's easy to let a huge lift or difficult rock climb get inside your head - I say this to myself as I walk out the door after every workout or competition. "I will try again tomorrow".

"Through the years, I have combined meditation, action, and the Iron into a single strength. I believe that when the body is strong, the mind thinks strong thoughts. Time spent away from the Iron makes my mind degenerate. I wallow in a thick depression. My body shuts down my mind. The Iron is the best antidepressant I have ever found. There is no better way to fight weakness than with strength. Once the mind and body have been awakened to their true potential, it's impossible to turn back.
The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you're a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black. I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds." --excerpt from Henry Rollins "The Iron"

Thank you thank you thank you. I am so glad to hear that The World's Strongest Man Soundtrack mentioned. Some people have heard of either the bands or the songs on the soundtrack except "Strongman". Everytime I mention that song and that it is by Bruce Aronson.
Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul.” -Plato

The video of the intro with the athletes is another "song". I hope that they release a second WSM soundtrack. It would be nice to find guitar tabs for "Strongman", but we do what others disregard.:):D:;cl)

"All the guys with big arms are in the audience" - buy Jack King a beer (or a protein drink. Great observation - great line!

More a quote rather than music guy:
"Oh, how easy it is for those outside the prison house of pain to exhort and teach those confined there in". Prometheus in, Prometheus Bound
Compassion seems in short supply in this world, this quote helps me keep it front and center (most of the time). It also helps keep me humble, which is no small task!
