  • Vertical jump and standing long jump of throwers

I've always wondered what are the vertical jump and standing long jump of throwers are, amateur as well as professional. Can some throwers tell me what are your jumps like?

    Hi,

I had a standing long jump of 3.40 when I was throwing - Perris Wilkins, the then British holder in the Discus, had a standing long jump over 4 metres. I never had much to do with vertical jumps as the throwing benchmarks were based around the standing long jump, 3 bounds, 30 metre sprints etc.

When I was throwing in college I had a best standing long jump of 13'1" (3.98m) and a best measured vertical leap of 29 inches (.73m). I think my vertical was probably a little better than that but it was not something that we measured very often. I am 6' (1.82m tall) and weighed 260 pounds (118kg) at the time.
