  • Cool downs: a good idea or a waste of time?

What is your opinion on the usefulness of including a planned cool down after strength training? Does it do anything to aid recovery or provide other tangible benefits? I don't view mobility work, such as stretching and foam rolling, as cooling down; this is a training activity in its own right. By cool down, I mean an activity performed at greatly reduced intensity that serves as a bridge between the training state and the resting state.

I've never seen any benefit. The research suggest a definite benefit after aerobic training, but is less convincing after anaerobic/weight training.
