I was there. Very impressive. The man waddles like a duck when he walks due to his tremendous size.

Don Reinhoudt squatted 911# in 1973 without knee wraps at about 100# less bodyweight. In the same meet (Chattanooga Open) he bench pressed 610# in a tank top and deadlifted the then world record of 885#. This does not diminish Wilkerson's effort but accentuates the fact that men are not much stronger today than yesterday.

Don Reinhoudt was the strongest man on Earth and he's still recognized as the strongest, competitive powerlifter of all time. Don totaled 2,380 under classic conditions and that's never been matched or surpassed.

HardcorePowerlifting.com (my company of eleven years) has been fighting the fight to bring powerlifting back to its 1960s and 1970s roots (no bench shirts, no super suits and traditional standards of excellence when it comes to the rules of performance.) Two of my officials come from Don's era (Jim Snodgrass has been competing since 1968.) It's not an easy fight though. The bench shirt/powerlifting suit mfgs have deep pockets and a legion of shirt benchers and suit lifters backing them up. They aren't willing to let go of their smoke n' mirrors techno style so they're battling us with everything we've got.

Hopefully we win the struggle and powerlifting returns to the greatness it knew when it was on Sports Spectacular and Wide World of Sports.

That's the way it's supposed to be! Look at Track and Field, I believe Sergei still has the pole vault record. Assuming records are supposed to be a end of the curve representation of human performance and the talent in the sport is top knotch, it's unlikely a top performer from a couple decades ago is going to be surpassed by much. Kaz benched 661 in a T shirt, when I see 1000 pound benches I can't believe someone tops him by 60%. No one has surpassed Sergei by 60%. Heck, no one is sprinting 60% faster than Jesse Owens!

Sean, good luck with your endeavor! I lost interest in PL when the suits started doing the lifting, I cringed everytime I read in PLUSA that someone had "trouble" getting the bar to their chest! I never had that problem, if I tried just a wee bit over my max the bar seemed to descend at 33 feet per second until it got to my chest and took up residence there. I never had a problem getting the bar down, the up part was the hard part for me!

Thank you Joe. I've got some equipment lifting videos on my YouTube page, but I've also got a lot of footage from our previous raw / classic competitions if you're interested? YouTube.com/SeanHCPL

The complete video from this pro squat contest should be up within 24 hours from now and I'll post it on that YouTube page.

Thanks again for the positive words.
